Can I own it outright instead of paying monthly?
Yes, exclusively for 1Cup customers. Within your first 3 months, you can prepay the remaining 48 months and transfer the number to your own account and phone company with no more monthly fees. This option is not available through other channels.
What if someone else orders the same number?
Numbers are strictly first come, first served. Availability is confirmed at checkout. If it's still there, it's yours. But if you're considering it, don't wait, because once it's gone, it's gone.
What phone does it forward to?
Any phone, your cell, your office landline, a VoIP system, or any combination. You control the forwarding and can change it anytime.
Does caller ID work?
Yes, caller ID still shows the caller's number. But if it's more important to you to know the call is coming from your vanity number, we can show the vanity number that was dialed rather than the caller's originating number. Your outbound calls still show whatever they show now, because forwarding another number to your physical number doesn't change your physical number. The only way to show your vanity number as your outgoing caller ID is to purchase the number outright and transfer it to your device so you're actually calling from it, or if you have a way to program the caller ID on your existing phone system.
Can I use it for text messages too?
Partially. When someone texts your vanity number, we can forward that message to you via email, so you'll see it, just not in your regular texting app. The limitation is that since we're forwarding the number, you can't reply from that vanity number or text customers directly from it. If you want full two-way texting, you'd need to purchase the number outright and transfer it to your own carrier. At that point it becomes your actual number and you can call from it and text from it just like any other line you own.

What happens after I order?
You'll receive a confirmation email with simple setup instructions. We transfer the number to your account at NumberBarn, a trusted phone number management service where you control your forwarding, and you're up and running by the next business day. The whole process is hands-off for you.
Do I really own it after the buyout?
Yes, completely. Once you buy out, the number is transferred to your own account. You own it the same way you own your cell phone number. No strings, no ongoing relationship required. You can keep it where it is, move it to any carrier, or do whatever you like with it.
What if I need to change my forwarding number later?
You can update your forwarding destination anytime through your NumberBarn account. Changing offices, switching to a cell, adding a VoIP line, it takes about 30 seconds to update.
What if my vanity word is longer than 7 letters?
Phone numbers are 7 digits after the area code, so only the first 7 letters of the word actually dial. A number like 708-PLUMBING works perfectly because P-L-U-M-B-I-N maps to the 7 digits and the G is ignored. Callers can dial the whole word and it still connects. The only rare issue is with very long words on certain carriers, so shorter is generally better.
What happens if I stop paying?
If you cancel, the number goes back into our available inventory. There's no penalty or fee for canceling. But keep in mind that once you let it go, someone else can claim it, and popular vanity numbers don't stay available long.
